Steering Gear

The steering gear, whether Rack & Pinion or Gear Box style, is the heart of the system. Most units are hydraulic and can leak and become worn. Newer cars use electric units that wear and cause heavier than usual loads on the electrical system. Hoses, Pumps and Sensors

Over years of driving, hoses can start to leak and contaminate the power steering system. The driver may notice symptoms such as low fluids, hard to turn at low speeds, or fluid under the car. The steering system also uses sensors to determine the amount of assistance needed or angle of the steering wheel.
